We are implementing integrated livelihood promotion program for the past decades.

Integrated Livelihood Promotion

Chronic food insecurity is not a major problem in the Eparchy, but food security is a dynamic process, people are edging closer to destitution and their resilience to small shocks has dwindled over several consecutive years of low income.

Livelihood shocks and other compounding factors in the Eparchy have limited basic coping mechanisms (such as daily wage labour) leading to a rise in the number of migrant workers over many years. Some core factor that contributed for low food security status includes land shortages and poor access to productive resources as well as water supply.

Integrated Livelihood Promotion Department of the Eparchy  is working on five intervention Projects with aim to improve food security and livelihoods of measurable number of households in the Eparchy.

Thematic Areas

1. Income generation, Food security supporting grain, vegetable and root crop production and marketing
Improve production and productivity of farmers supporting the extension system and farmers training , providing improved seeds and other essentials.
  • Promotion of small scale irrigation where ever the opportunity present
  • Reducing post harvest loses
  • Improvements in agricultural marketing infrastructure through cooperative promotion program
  • Supporting income generating activities through provision of small scale loans through Saving and Credit institutions, or through   Saving and Internal Lending arrangements
2. Promotion of Livestock  value chain
The value chain approach will  aim at protecting livestock assets supporting various institutions working in the area, linking farmers to the export market circle and promoting production for market purpose, focusing on capacity building of producers, merchants, support institutions, strengthening output and input markets.
3. Income Generating for the unemployed Urban and                                         Rural youth
Aim at reducing the number of  youth often migrates in search of employment outside the zone. The youth would get improved opportunity for job within the Eparchy and outside by providing adequate training and support on a short term basis training on Metal Work, carpentry, Basic Computer Skill and Business plan and entrepreneurship training.
4. Capacity building for improved natural resource management
Support the community to organise them selves in better way and effectively to protect their communal assets against erosion.
